Focus Timers

Focus timers are for those days when “just sit down and work” needs a little structure. The tools here mostly revolve around Pomodoro-style sessions: set a timer, work with fewer interruptions, take a break, and keep a record of what you finished. Some keep things simple and focused, like Pomofocus with its customizable session lengths, task list, estimated pomodoro counts, and focus-history reporting, or Focus Keeper with task tracking, saved session history, and charts across web and mobile. Others build the timer into a broader planning system: TickTick and Focus To-Do combine focused work sessions with to-dos, reminders, recurring tasks, due dates, syncing, and progress reports, so your timer lives alongside the work it is meant to help you finish.

There are also a few more distinctive approaches depending on what kind of motivation or support you need. Session is especially tailored to Apple devices, combining timed work sessions with Mac distraction blocking, progress tracking, reflection, sync, and optional Slack status updates for Pro users. Forest turns staying focused into a visual habit by growing a virtual tree during uninterrupted sessions, with app blocking, stats, group sessions, and a real-tree planting program through Trees for the Future. And while Goblin Tools is broader than a timer, it fits nicely for anyone whose focus problem starts before the timer begins: it can break tasks into steps, estimate how long something may take, turn messy notes into actions, and help make planning feel more manageable.
